Why does Used Car Expert’s price guide give the most accurate used car valuations?

  • Our used car prices are the only ones that are based on realistic prices in garages and private sales, where you are most likely to buy.

  • Most price guides are based around auction data where the trade buy their cars. An arbitrary margin is then added to arrive at what other price guides call a 'dealer price.'

  • But dealers, depending on where they are based and the competition in their area, make their own judgements on the price to sell at. So the more old fashioned used car price guides give less accurate valuations than the Used Car Expert prices.

  • The Used Car expert guides are also the only guides to use real average mileage patterns for every model. This dramatically impacts the accuracy of the prices we recommend you aim to buy and sell at.

  • Some cars do an average of 4,000 miles a year, some do 20,000. Other guides take an average of 10,000 miles. Without knowing the real average for your car, in your area, it is all too easy to pay inflated prices for a car that seemed to be low mileage, but isn’t really.
