The A6 is a big Audi of the old-school. Sober and stylish with a fine cabin of gadgets and quality finishes. With it's stellar engine range, the A6 is as sensible and respectable as a dark blue cardigan from M&S.
The A6 is a very big, heavy car - not a good choice if parking space is at a premium but it does mean there is tons of space inside. Plus the cruise is super smooth even if the driving experience is not as sharp as a BMW.
All the engines are good but you will pay a hefty premium for a diesel car. For example a 5 year old 2.0 diesel will cost £1000.00 more than the 2.4 petrol and will cost much more to service - at this age a petrol is also likely to be more reliable.
The one everyone seems to go for is the 2.0 TDI as an Avant (estate). Despite the popularity, price and mileage are reasonable. But you can pay less for a 2.0 petrol with lower mileage.
5 year old A6s still have lots of life left. The 2.0 petrol has an average mileage of under 70,000 and is yours for under £9,000. The 2.0 TDI is slightly more.
Depreciation is very steady but quite sharp until 5 years when it starts to level out £ hence our recommendation.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Audi A6 you would aim to buy a 4 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
