The 6 series is a rather marvellous big coupe from BMW. Sharp looks, a truly high-end drive and the capacity to seat four make this a proper luxury car. The handling on all cars is superb and they are very, very refined. The cabin is pure luxury.
The earlier petrol V8 and V6 cars are something of a bargain now. Later diesel engined versions have far harder prices. But then, it can take you from Lands End to John O?Groats and back on a tank of fuel.
It's possible to get a 2007 650i V8 car for around £18,000. The cheapest comparable diesel will be £24,000. It will take you as much as six years to make up the extra cost of buying the diesel in savings on MPG.
Go for an early 4.4 V8 petrol car for a proper bargain luxury car. The 4.4 V8 petrol is a very tough engine and the owner profile means the cars rarely get hard use. M6 is a proper supercar and a specialist buy.
Pay around £15,000 for a 2005 645i V8 petrol with around 50,000 miles showing. A 2007 diesel 635d with 80,000 miles on the clock will set you back around £24,000.
Buy an early car from around 2004/2005 - petrol V8 cars are starting to depreciate heavily at around this age. Later V8 petrol and diesel cars are best bought at 3 years as the first MOT is due.
