BMW X5 For Sale Prices & Depreciation Trend

Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current BMW X5 you would aim to buy a 4 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
| Year | £ Average Price | £ Drop | % Depreciation |
| 2012 | £53,240.00 | - | - |
| 2011 | £45,661.00 | £7,579.00 | 14.24 |
| 2010 | £43,302.00 | £2,359.00 | 5.17 |
| 2009 | £35,588.00 | £7,714.00 | 17.81 |
| 2008 | £29,059.00 | £6,529.00 | 18.35 |

The depreciation is based on analysis of UK retail prices over 3 years, using new brochure prices, a sample of 232 cars first registered in 2011, 229 cars first registered in 2010, 397 cars first registered in 2009, 459 cars first registered in 2008.
Petrol BMW X5 cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol BMW X5 cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Diesel BMW X5 cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.

Used BMW X5 2007 – Buyer’s Guide
Why buy a Used BMW X5?
Not for the shrinking Violet, the second generation X5 is absolutely huge. Very good though, if you like that sort of thing. Has a very neat third row of seats for kids. Excellent to drive, hard to park.
BMW have done an amazing job on the ride and handling of the X5. Top drawer on both counts. Interior is very good as well and the car has fantastic diesel engines.
I’ve seen several Used BMW X5 for sale, which should I buy?
Almost all the cars in the secondhand market are diesel. Interesting the used values of the 3.0 diesel and top of the range petrol V8 are the same. The big petrols have every option, do fewer miles and are real bargains at that money.
You won't get any reent X5 for less than £23,000. That gets you a choice of low miles 4.8 petrols and slightly higher mileage, lower spec diesels. We'd say go diesel. It's a great engine and the fuel costs of the V8 will be very scary.
Fault Checks for the BMW X5
I’ve seen a Used BMW X5 for sale, what is a good price?
Pay no more than £26,000 for a 3.0 diesel SE with less than 50,000 miles on the clock. A top of the range 4.2 Sport can be had for around the same money.
Diesel X5's hold their value well for the first 3 to 4 years then there's a big drop. Petrol X5's plummet like a stone from day one. Get one of those.
