A friendly 4X4 from Chevrolet, the Captiva may lack the badge Kudos of its rivals but it's more than a match for any of them. It is as jolly to live with as a QashQai but for much less cash.
The Captiva is a pleasingly rounded machine. Stylish and comfortable it also has great engines, good accommodation and excellent road manners. And it's cheap.
Almost all the Captivas in the secondhand market are diesel. Petrols offer a useful saving of around £1500 to £2000 but the car is such a stand out bargain anyway we'd say go diesel.
Go for a 2.0 diesel Captiva in mid range LT trim with the 7 seat option. All the car you could need and a very canny choice.
Pay £12,800 for a 3 year old Captiva with a 2.0 diesel engine with no more than 29,000 miles showing. Save £2000 if you don't mind petrol power.
There is a big , big drop nearly new so buy a Captiva at two years and hold on.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Chevrolet Captiva you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 4 years old.
Diesel Chevrolet Captiva cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Diesel Chevrolet Captiva cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Diesel Chevrolet Captiva cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
