A cheap car for sure, but not cheaply made. Chevrolet's Cruze offers a rational, inexpensive and subtle answer to the questions of family motoring. Much, much better than you think.
The Cruze is stylish in a bland kind of way, it is commodious and lovley to drive with a small but excellent range of engines and VW-quality trim.
Diesel engine prices and mileage are comparable to petrol cars . The diesel Cruze will eventually cost more to service though. But that's not a problem for the first 5 years.
If buying purely on price, go for the bargain basement Cruze, the 1.8 LT. It has all the toys and a likely useful saving over the comparative diesel.
Pay £11,800 for a nearly new 1.8LT petrol. But the 2.0 diesel is worth the extra money if you do the miles.
Depreciation is fairly heavy in the early years making 2 year old cars eye-catchingly cheap.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Chevrolet Cruze you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 4 years old.
Diesel Chevrolet Cruze cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Chevrolet Cruze cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Chevrolet Cruze cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
