The new Berlingo builds on the strengths of the first. It's very, very tough but a little agricultural in places though somewhat of a limo compared to the earlier car. Buy one if the C-Max and Scenic seem limp.
The Berlingo is a very honest car. It's not about style or image but rather ultimate utility. Only has 5 seats mind, but it's cheap as chips both new and used. Not one for impressing the neighbours.
The diesel engine suits the car best, particularly in 110 format but the petrols offer a gigantic saving that cannot be ignored. The modularity pack is useful - as is the Modutop storage set. Air-con is not standard, check for it.
A 1.6 petrol will cost you over £1500 less than a comparative diesel. You could spend that money on better spec which greatly improves the car.
Go for any car with air-con. Most of the useful options such as the modularity pack and Modutop are extra cost anyway, whatever the trim level.
Buy nearly new if going petrol and at 3 years if diesel.
