The Daihatsu Charade is one of the few cars we haven't driven - but who has? It is a tiny runaround. It is cheap but not as cheap as it should be compared to Ford Kas or Fiestas.
Daihatsu offer a long warranty and most dealers are small, friendly outfits dependent on local reputation. So you are buying their service and putting trust in that more than you are the car.
There is only the 1.0 litre engine to choose from. And it's petrol. So that's the one to buy. But that's not to say there aren't options. You can pick from manual or automatic gearboxes.
If the car has been serviced, and you give it a thorough test drive, there is no real reason to avoid the automatic that has probably been driven gently by someone's Gran. But manuals, from a risk of repair perspective, are usually safer.
You should always aim to haggle on Daihatsus. Because they are rare, dealers think they can get away with charging more than they would for similar cars. Pay less for this than Fiat Puntos are being advertised in your area for or you've been had.
Depreciation on Charades is steady apart from a spike around 4 or 5 years old, it stays in single digits. So if you do overpay, you still won't be out of pocket. You can buy and sell these at any time.
