Daihatsus, including the Sirion, actually use a lot of Toyota parts - like engines and gearboxes. Which means you are getting a cheap, reliable car. The post 2005 Sirion is not unattractive either.
There are 1.0P and 1.3P engines to choose from. They are all 5 doors and mileages stay low, only getting up into the 30,000s in their 5th year. There are not a huge number of dealers sadly, so services won't be a problem but repairing problems might be.
The 1.0 engine is the budget buy that offers cheap insurance (groups 4-5 depending on spec).
The 1.3 is a slightly more capable engine and the insurance is not significantly more (group 6) but the 49 MPG is a notable 6 less than the smaller engine.
Nearly new Sirions start at £8,500 and then lose 15-20% a year. So 3 year old motors with average mileage of 16,000 for the small engines and 20,000 for the bigger engine see prices around £6,000. The 1.0s are slightly less, the 1.3s slightly more.
You can buy Sirions at anytime. Depreciation is mainly in the mid teens although it drops after the car passes its MOT and move on to second or third owners.
