Well... Let's get the looks out of the way first. Early cars were mad and ugly - later cars mad and bland. If you care remotely about how other road users perceive you then A) You shouldn't and B) This car is not for you.
Other than the looks the case for the Multipla is watertight. Two rows of seats means 6 people carried. The JTDM Fiat engines are superb, the ride good and the handling game. Owners swear by them.
Go for a 1.9 JTDM diesel. Petrols are cheaper but not enough to make sense. Go diesel - it's a very tough, very smooth plant and the car is built around it.
Spec is not a big problem with the Multipla. Go for Active trim but really all are fine.
A well looked after early car will be just as good as a late one. Pre-facelift cars are a bit of a cult now. Pay £9000 for a 3 year old car or £2000 for a good early one.
Depreciation is eye watering on the Multipla. Best buy at 4 years when prices are stable.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Fiat Multipla you would aim to buy a 3 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
