Used Ford Fusion 2002 – Buyer’s Guide

Why buy a Used Ford Fusion?

A Fusion, as well as being a one-time choclate bar, is a Fiesta on big suspension springs. Why Ford made it is not entirely clear even now; in every respect it drives like a Fiesta. But stick with this review because the prices are different.

Best guesses to explain the creation of the Fusion include that it is easier for the elderly to get into (true) and Ford had an excess of spare parts (unlikely). It feels slightly less chirpy than the Fiesta to drive but delivers an assured ride.

Which is the best used Ford Fusion?

Let's leave the 1.6 petrol aside; it has low MPG and is over-kill in power terms. The 1.4 petrol is cheap to repair and therefore run when old. Unlike the Fiesta, but in line with most other small cars, it is cheaper than the diesel to buy.

If you can live with the lower 44 MPG then the 1.4 petrol is cheaper. If you need the extra 20 MPG then go for the 1.4 TDCi diesel. The purchase price difference is really quite small. Although repair costs on 7 year olds and up will be more.

Fault Checks for the Ford Fusion

What should I aim to pay for an Ford Fusion?

For what it is, the Fusion is quite expensive and because there are so few about to compare, it will be easy for a dealer to over charge you.

It's not until they pass their 6th birthday that Fusions drop below £5,000. Depreciation remains in the low to mid teens, though 4 and 5 year old models seem to lose less, so if you plan to own it for less than 18 months, that's a good time to buy.
