The second-generation Ford Galaxy built not just on the reputation and strengths of the original Galaxy, but also the more nimble and stylish S-Max. The difference between the two is that the Galaxy has 7 full size chairs and more head room.
The Galaxy, with the 2.0 TDCi engine, is quick, refined and yet it can take up to 7 adults. It has a relatively car-like driving position and good handling balance. The Titanium spec comes with all the little extras such as leather seats and Sat Nav.
If low purchase price is key then go for the 2.0 petrol. However, the Galaxy is optimised around the 2.0 diesel motor and it really suits the car. If you can find the extra £1000 then it's well worth it.
The best value spec is Zetec. It has all you need and offers a useful £300 to £500 saving over the Titanium spec. Go for a 2.0 diesel motor and you cannot go wrong.
Pay £13,500 for a 3 year old 2.0 Zetec Diesel Galaxy. This should have no more than 40,000 miles on the clock.
There is quite a big drop on nearly new then prices are steady until the car is 4 years old where there is another drop. This suggests that the cars are very popular at 3 years old. Wait until the 4th year.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Ford Galaxy you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 5 years old.
Diesel Ford Galaxy cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Ford Galaxy cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Diesel Ford Galaxy cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
