Ford's replacement for the iconic Mk1 KA was never going to have the same appetite for corners - nor the same superb ride. But it also doesn't feel like it's made of newspaper and paperclips. Which is a good thing.
The KA is essentially a Fiat 500 in drag. Which is itself a Panda - so you get the same class competitive use of space and general urban ability. A fine city car - if a bit hectic elsewhere.
Avoid the diesels - though superb, they are very, very expensive in comparison to petrol (£1000+) and don't really suit urban driving. Go petrol for cheap and cheerful city fun.
Don't even consider spec - it just doesn't matter on car like this. Get air con if you can, but don't pay extra for it.
Pay just under £6,000 for a three year old petrol car with less than 20,000 miles on the clock.
Petrol depreciation is constant so buy and sell any time. If you must buy diesel - do it nearly new as there is a big dip there.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Ford KA you would aim to buy a 5 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
Diesel Ford KA cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Ford KA cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Ford KA cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
