The Insight is Honda's answer to the Toyota Prius - it's less expensive new because it's hybrid system is slightly less efficient and considerably cheaper to make. For this reason you don't get below the magic 100g/km emissions tax threshold - sort of negating the point of the car really.
The Insight is a pleasant car to drive - and it's tax disadvantage to the Toyota makes it cheaper secondhand. It's very, very well built, likely to be extremely reliable and is actually a very practical family car with remarkable fuel economy. The interior is commodious and suitably futuristic.
The choice with the Insight really comes down to spec and colour. High spec cars have everything as standard. Other than that the cars are the same so buy on mileage and condition
With something as specialised as the Insight it makes sense not to pay too much for options that cost a fortune new. Go for a basic model and you will still be saving the world in some comfort.
Expect to pay £9,500 or therabouts for a three year old car with less than 30,000 miles on the clock. Higher mileage cars are something of a rarity and in terms of reliability something of an unknown quantity. Play it safe.
Buy a low mileage car at 3 years old when the first MOT is due. Or nearly new where large discounts can be found. Sell at any time.
