Before Hyundai became the UK's biggest seller of scrappage scheme cars no one knew who they were. That's because they made cars like the Amica. It is not a bad car, but it is basic and unrefined.
This diddy little car will struggle with 4 adults onboard but 2 adults and a couple of toddlers isn't a problem. The boot is as you would expect on a car this size. Handling isn't really relevant - you can't go quick enough to get into real trouble.
There are still plenty of Amicas on the market with 1-3 years of their Hyundai manufacturer warranty left. The 1.1 litre engine is weedy, but it is half the price of a Honda Jazz, so you pay your money, you take your choice.
Retirees who buy whatever their local dealer tells them to will have specified automatics. If you plan to run this car to high mileage you will be better off with the manual but it's not a problem in the short-term - 5 year warranty remember.
You can get a lot of Amica for £3,000; cars with less than 20,000 miles and a year of warranty. In Hyundai land, if you have £4,000 you can buy one of the very last made in tip top condition - you are king with £5,000 to spend.
Within the warranty period, depreciation is almost nil on these little cars, so buy and sell when you please. Outside of the warranty period, watch out for a sudden drop in value.
