If you pass a Hyundai Getz, you won't notice. If you do, you may well think it is a Toyota. It's actually got a longer warranty than Toyotas of the same age. But it shares a plain interior and general function-over-form feel.
The Getz has a standard amount of rear legroom and boot space for a car this size. But being a Hyundai it also has higher levels of standard equipment than the mainstream competitors like Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Fiesta et al. Plus, it can be cheaper.
While the 63 MPG offered by the 1.5 diesel unit is appealing, the 1.3 petrol unit can manage 50 MPG and a similar power output. The 1.4 petrol unit replaced the 1.3 around 2005. It is more powerful and refined, but does giveaway 3 MPG as a result.
Petrol engined Getzs are as much as 20% less than mainstream competition which have less kit. Whereas, inexplicably, the diesels are about the same money. This can mean a four figure saving on purchase price, so the MPG difference isn't that important.
Looking at the better value petrols, £3,000 buys 7 year old cars with less than 45,000 average miles. £5,000 can buy a 3 and certainly a 4 year old car, both of which are covered by the 5 year warranty. Mileages should be under 20,000 too.
There is a spike in depreciation at 3 years old, because despite the long warranty, it has to go through an MOT. Once through that however, it's back to single digits. So you won't regret buying this car because of depreciation.
