Useful, practical and cheap - the only real drawbacks with the Sportage are the styling & unrefined diesel engines. It's an odd looking beast to put it mildly.
A good car, with decent on road manners and a good range of engines the Sportage has much to recommend it if you can live with the looks. That's a big if...
You can get a diesel auto variant of this car which just shows how far ahead of the game Kia are, and for how long they have been. Those cars carry a premium though so, as ever, go petrol manual.
The best compromise is the 2.0 petrol as a manual in SE spec. Should last forever though, after a while, you might wish it wouldn't.
Pay £5000 for a 6 year old 2.0 petrol XE model with a manual gearbox.
Depreciation will be steady on these cars and highly affected by specification and mileage. There is no best time to buy on these cars.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Kia Sportage you would aim to buy a 2 year old and sell it before it is 3 years old.
Diesel Kia Sportage cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Diesel Kia Sportage cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Kia Sportage cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
