The second generation Land Rover Freelander is a massive step up in quality from the first. An excellent, reliable car, the Freelander strikes a pitch perfect compromise between on and off road prowess.
A fine car to drive with good accommodation, a sweet ride and a prestige badge, the Freelander makes a very strong case. In image it just shades the BMW X3 and Honda CR-V. Expensive both new and used, this is a desirable car.
There are some petrol cars in the market but, cheap as they are, it's probably best to go diesel. Later automatic cars command a premium, so go manual.
Go for a mid range spec such as S or GS. That will give you all you need.
Pay £20,000 for a 3 year old Freelander 2.2 Diesel manual in GS spec.
There is a huge drop from nearly new to 3 years old. Save a fortune and buy then.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Land Rover Freelander you would aim to buy a 4 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
Diesel Land Rover Freelander cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Diesel Land Rover Freelander cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Diesel Land Rover Freelander cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
