A true Lotus. Light, agile, fast and incredibly smooth riding, the Elise showcases all that is good about Lotus. Sadly, it's about as reliable as Amy Winehouse - but it's also just as much fun.
The Elise is strictly a second car. Run one as your only transport and risk madness. As a second car though, it's peerless. Prices are very firm as the car has a fanatical fan base.
Almost all Elises are different, buy as close to standard as you can. Later Toyota engined cars are much more reliable. Go for one of those if you have the funds.
Go for a basic spec, post 2001 Toyota powered Elise. Make sure it has a FULL specialist history and buy from someone who knows the cars.
Pay around £14,500 for a 7 year old 1.8 Elise with around 25,000 miles on the clock, and up to £20,000 for 3 year old cars.
Depreciation is very, very light ? to the extent that it is not really a factor.
