Sharp to look at and sharp to drive. The 6 is a highly rated, Mondeo-based family car that delivers on every level. Traditional Mazda reliability, combined with a striking shell and Mazda's sporty driving dynamics. What's not to like?
The 6 is basically a Japanese take on the Mondeo. It is a little more grey inside, but it more than makes up for that with a more involved driving feeling, excellent engines and gadgetry.
There is a near £2000 premium for diesel Mazda 6's. If you intend to keep the car and are not worried about re-sale then go for a 2.0 petrol. The refined, revvy nature of the engine really allows you to exploit the fine chassis.
The best compromise for the canny buyer is a Mazda 6 2.0 litre petrol in TS spec. This will save you £2000 and you should get a car with substantially lower mileage than if you buy diesel.
Prices range from a 1.8 petrol in basic S spec at two years old (£12,000) right up to a loaded Sport spec 2.2 Diesel at £17,500 nearly new.
Depreciation is going to be low on the Mazda 6. That means, whist purchase price will be high, the car will retain its value well over time.
