The 2nd generation CLK is smoother than smooth. The car returned to 'pillarless' configuration from Mercedes coupes of old. It has room for four and the looks have hardly aged. This model also features diesel power for the first time.
A lovely car to drive and a great place in which to do long distances, the CLK features the typical Mercedes strengths of a fine ride, great seats and superb, class leading refinement. Excellent engines complement the package.
Prices are pretty firm for the diesel models though there are bargains amongst the petrol cars. Manuals are a bargain but that's because they're rubbish (the gates are far apart).
A diesel car will cost you substantially more. Around £1000 more spec for spec - even then the mileage is likely to be higher. Couple this with the higher servicing cost/greater unreliability of the diesel and the choice is clear.
Pay around £12,300 for a 5 year old CKL320 with no more than 60,000 miles on the clock.
Around 3 years with it's first MOT is a good time to buy. Petrol models should depreciate at around 15/20% in that year. The newer E-class coupe has had a heavy affect on the price of nearly new cars.
