The Mercedes CLS is a stylish executive car, that now feels more like a young person’s S-Class, rather than the spiritual successor to the Austin Princess.
The comfort and effortless motion of an S-Class, clearly a level or two up from the 'everyday E-Class' driver, but for a fraction of the price you might expect.
Specificaitons are not wildly different, and used cars often have the extras already fitted, so don't worry about that. The key issue is the engine. The 250 CDI is a good car, but a little underpowered. The 350 is a better fit on a car of this stature.
Any specification with the 350 CDI BlueEfficiency engine, and 7-speed automatic gearbox will be a joy to drive. AMG wheels and sport mode give you a GT car that can mix it. Smaller convetional wheel and 'normal' mode will better suit a Sunday drive.
Three and four year old cars are half the price of a new car, with just 25-45,000 miles on the clock and lots of life left.
The CLS becomes great value from three years old, and is expection al value by its fourth birthday. Prices don't fall so heavily after that, so it is a car you can enjoy for sometime.
