The Carisma is well built, quiet, almost invisible Japanese family saloon with no real reputation to speak of. Thus it is very cheap compared to the competition.
Although prices for the petrol and diesel models are roughly comparative the petrol models will usually have a far lower average mileage, usually an amazing 50% less!
Go for a basic 1.6 petrol. Cheap, cheerful budget motoring. All the necessary options are there and there's not much to go wrong. The rarity of the diesel variants could lead to nasty bills.
No Carisma will cost over £3500. A fair price for a six year old 1.6 16V Equippe is around £3000.
The depreciation on these cars has leveled out now but will always be much less on diesel cars. You can buy or sell at any time.
