Quite why Nissan chose to replace the sprightly ‘bug eyed’ pervious generation car with this rather dull effort is a mystery. It’s a competent car for sure and the 1.2 supercharged motor is ace, but overall it is so very dull and hard to recommend over some great competition like the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.
It’s hard to call the Micra a bad car, it isn’t, it’s just that in this sector mere competence is not enough. It’s adequately roomy and tidy to drive but it really lacks sparkle and it’s pretty low rent inside
There is no diesel version of this car. You can only get a 1.3 cylinder petrol, either supercharged or not. The supercharged motor is great, it gives the car decent pace and superb, diesel like fuel economy fuel economy. This is the variant to go for if you can find one.
Nissan always provide a baffling array of trims and specs and the Micra is no exception to this. Acenta trim is fine and the optional CVT automatic gearbox actually rather suits this car. Just don’t expect it to be any fun.
