Peugeot's replacement for the innovative 306 is a very different beast. With the emphasis on comfort and space rather than being fun to drive the 307 is very much a family car.
The 307 is huge inside and the SW estates can carry pretty much anything (hence they have replace old Volvo as the antique dealers wagon of choice) the 307 is a budget car for the family.
Even though the diesels are considerably more expensive (about £1000 on average) we would still recommend them as Peugeot make such superb diesels that they are worth the premium. An exceptional bend of power and economy is guaranteed.
With this car the sensible policy is to go for the lowest spec you can find that has air-con as standard. We would recommend a 1.6HDi SW as a car for pretty much any practical need you have.
Pay £7000 for a 1.6HDi SW in the most basic trim. A comparative petrol would cost £350 less.
The best time to buy will be at 3 years old when the first MOT is due. Depreciation should be lower on diesel models peaking at a comparatively low 16% at 3 years old.
