Used Peugeot 407 2004 – Buyer’s Guide

Why buy a Used Peugeot 407?

The 407 is Peugeot's answer to the Mondeo, Laguna and Vectra. Peugeot were able style the 407 in a very dramatic way. It looks unique and stands out a mile in this segment.

The 407 is superb to drive with composed ride and handling. Not much rear legroom for family buyers but the optional panoramic sunroof really brings luxury to the SW (estate) versions. A superb range of engines and excellent value complete the picture.

Which is the best used Peugeot 407?

As with all cars in this class the diesel models hold onto their value best. Petrols are around £800 less on average and have 7 or 8000 miles less on the clock. However servicing costs and insurance are similar and Peugeot make brilliant diesels.

The best compromise in the range is a manual 2.0D SE. The auto saps power and lowers MPG toward manual petrol levels and the 1.6D is under powered. The panoramic roof is a desirable option if you can find one.

What should I aim to pay for an Peugeot 407?

Expect to pay as little as £5000 for an early 2.0 petrol. A nearly new 2.0 D Executive (which comes with pretty much every extra you can think of) can cost up to £16,000 which nearly a third of the price lost in the first year. Great value.

Buy at one or at three years when the first MOT has been issued. After that depreciation is going to be a steady 14 to 17% on diesel models. Even at a year old, a petrol 407 makes sense as they can lose up to half their value in the first year.
