If you can get past the daft name, and van looks, the Partner is a great car. Rugged and useful with an indestructible and simple cabin which has loads of usable room. If you are into practical cars with a bit of utilitarian chic, the Partner hits the spot.
The Partner comes with Citroens comprehensive range of Engines and, like its sister car the Citroen Berlingo; it makes the fashion for big wheeled SUV’s seem a bit silly. A great family car that won’t make you look like a fashion victim.
The Partner is cheap and it’s even cheaper with a petrol engine. Avoid the fragile complexity of the modern diesel engine by going petrol and save yourself a few bob.
Citroen’s utterly bewildering array of trim levels cannot be understood by anybody. Just make sure you get air-con. Avoid the Modutop roof option. It’ll break straight away.
Go for a 1.6 petrol car in basic spec with air-con. More utilitarian than John Stuart Mill. Pay £8,500 for a 3 year old car with around 30,000 on the clock.
On a petrol car there is a fairly big drop after a year so buy nearly new. Depreciation is constant from there on and fairly strong.
