The revised Boxster is an evolution to maintain its position against BMW's Z4, Audi TT, and Mercedes SLK. It looks more credible and retains the smooth ride and precise steering loved by its buyers.
The Boxster is not just cheaper than a 911, it is more accessible. More refined, but still raspy, more comfortable than a BMW, as direct to steer as the Merc or Audi. It's a winning combination.
The 2.7 is ample. The early S cars carry a 3.4 which makes them very fast but the Boxster is about balance, not speed. Later cars have a 2.9 engine and the option of the excellent PDK dual clutch gearbox.
A basic car an S in a subtle, dark or metallic colour is the best way to go in terms of re-sale. A strong combination of colour, leather and spec is key if you want TT owners to look twice.
Pay up to £24,000 for a 3 year old 2.7 model with around 18,000 on the clock. Or £20,000 for a 4 year old with 25,000 miles.
There is a clear dip in prices at around 4 years but after that it's pretty flat.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Porsche Boxster you would aim to buy a 4 year old and sell it before it is 5 years old.
