Really ugly. Really fast. Really big. In that order. If you don't give a monkey's what others think and like defying the laws of physics then the Cayenne is your car.
Although it looks almost incomparably ugly the Cayenne is an impressive beast. It rides and handles like a normal Porsche - high praise indeed. There's loads of space inside as well and petrol early petrol cars at low prices now.
Almost any variant of the Cayenne will provide quite a lot of pleasure to the driver. Although the principal is rather odd the diesel car is actually pretty good. The huge petrol V8s are the bargains though.
If you can live with 18MPG the 4.8 petrol is one of the great bargains. You can pick up a Cayenne S (the 3.2 V6 is just called the Cayenne) for very little money these days. It will be an auto unless it's a GTS - in which case be careful.
You can get an early, 6 year old 4.8 V8 for about £15,000 with less than 70,000 on the clock and a good history - or about the same price as Ford Fiesta Diesel.
There is a gigantic drop in price at three years. Without doubt wait till then. The money you save could get you a nice terraced house on Doncaster.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Porsche Cayenne you would aim to buy a 4 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
Diesel Porsche Cayenne cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Porsche Cayenne cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Diesel Porsche Cayenne cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
