The Renault Twingo is a small, fun, little city car that is somehow less camp than the Ka. Unless you choose the wrong colour of course. A subtle design, with a well made interior, the little City car holds its own against bigger, more expensive cars.
The Renault Twingo is genuinely small - unlike say a Volkswagen Fox which is very wide - which makes a joy in the City. Nipping into small parking spots and whizzing through the traffic is easy in the Twingo. Yet it feels like a grown-up small car, not a silly city car.
While there is a 1.6 VVT engine available, this is only found in the Sport Cup and is only for the most serious and hard-core boy racers. For everyone else, there is a 1.2 TCE engine which is powerful, versatile and frugal.
The 1.2 TCE engine is really the only choice for most motorists. It offers 55 MPG on average, hits 60 MPH in 12 seconds and only emits 119 g/km of CO2.
£5,000 - £6,000 buys two year old 1.2 TCE Twingos with under 15,000 miles on the clock.
At two years old the Twingo prices drop to about half the new car price, yet typical mileages will be under 15,000. So that is the time to buy. You can sell with a year and you'll hardly see any depreciation. The price does drop again at 3-4 years old, but hang on to the car after this and you will only see fairly small, steady drops.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Renault Twingo you would aim to buy a 5 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
