Seat refer to the Altea as a 'multi sports vehicle' - meaning it's like an SUV but smaller. And they are right, it is. Great handling, loads of room - it looks pretty striking as well.
The Altea is the best handling of all the MPVs, Ford's C-Max included. It's never sold that well so it's cheap. A great, and totally misunderstood car. We really like it.
Go diesel with the Seat Altea. It's cheap enough to make sense with this already very cheap car. The VW 2.0 TDi turns the Altea into a Go-Kart.
Go for a 2.0 turbo diesel in Sport spec. That's absolutely the opposite of our usual advice but with this spec you get the closest to the way the car was designed to perform.
Pay no more than £10,000 for a 3 year old 2.0 TDI Atea in Sport trim.
2 year old cars can be cheap, as can 4 year old cars.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Seat Altea you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 4 years old.
Diesel Seat Altea cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Seat Altea cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Seat Altea cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
