The Exeo is essentially the last generation Audi A4 with a Seat badge on the nose and steering wheel. You can't say fairer than that really. A solid, safe and stylish family car.
Although not quite as refined as the Audi (particularly the diesel models) on which it's based the Exeo makes a very good case for itself as a family car. It looks great, is comfortable and fast and should offer excellent safety credentials.
With the Exeo its diesel or nothing. The higher powered 170 models are likely to be less reliable, and need greater maintenance due to engine stresses and sits one insurance group higher.
The pick of the bunch is going to be the 140PS diesel in mid range SE spec. This offers the best compromise between cost and residuals out of the Exeo range.
Expect to pay just under £16,000 for a year old SE spec car with the 2.0 140 PS diesel. A Sport model with the 170PS diesel will cost you £500 more at the same age.
Depreciation is going to be low on this car. That means, whist purchase price will be high, the car will retain its value well over time. The cars will take a hit at three years come the first MOT.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Seat Exeo you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 4 years old.
Diesel Seat Exeo cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Seat Exeo cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Seat Exeo cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
