The Yeti is another piece of excellent design from Skoda. Highly desirable with very firm secondhand prices and a waiting list for new cars the Yeti is a very well realised junior SUV that has set caught it's rival by surprise.
It's hard to find fault with the Yeti. The Fabia on which it's based is just as useful most of the time but that's it. Great every day, the Yeti has brilliant ride and handling - is refined and capacious and pretty much the ideal family car.
The diesel Yeti's are excellent and very sought after but the are expensive secondhand. We'd opt for petrol with this car. The tiny 1.2 Turbo petrol is the engine which suits the car best and it's usefully cheaper.
Opt for the 1.2T in SE trim. That's more than enough car for anyone. The DSG automatic box is only available in 7 speed form on the 1.2 petrol and it's very good in this application.
The Yeti holds on to money like a Dickensian miser and the cars are still pretty expensive for what they are. Pay a hefty £15,000 for a 10,000 mile 1 year old car. Or, the same price as a 6 year old Porsche Cayenne.
These cars are not really depreciating at the moment. Buy or sell at any time.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Skoda Yeti you would aim to buy a 2 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
Petrol Skoda Yeti cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Diesel Skoda Yeti cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Skoda Yeti cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
