The Grand Vitara is a small 4X4 of the old school. That means that, while its interior and on road dynamics don't match up to the likes of the RAV-4, it is very tough, very reliable and very good off road.
Not the greatest handling car in the world. Tough though and will last forever. If you regularly go off-road and need something cheap then look no further.
Go petrol with the Grand Vitara. It's a very, very tough engine and suits the car. The diesel will cost you up to £1500 more and it's a rough old thing.
There are many strangely named special editions and trim levels for this car. If you don't mind driving something with 'Attitude' written on it then you are in luck. Otherwise plain Plus spec will do.
The rise of more fashionable road based small 4x4s has hurt Grand Vitara prices. Pay no more than £10,000 for a 4 year old car with less than 50,000 on the clock.
Petrol Vitaras lose money faster than Kerry Katona. Buy after 3 years, keep for a few and sell for buttons.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Suzuki Grand Vitara you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 4 years old.
Diesel Suzuki Grand Vitara cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Suzuki Grand Vitara cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Suzuki Grand Vitara cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
