The MR-2 is a kind of mini Boxster and is a direct rival for the Mazda MX-5. It's mid-engined but very basic with just one engine and no auto option.
The handling of the MR-2 is as good as the market-leading Mx-5, the ride good and the build quality exemplary. Only the bland styling held it back.
There's really not much to choose from here. Later MR2s get a tasteless body kit - which if you like, fine. But the non-kit version may age better.
Go for as basic and as well looked after car as you can. Mileage is usually pretty low - average mileage being just over 35,000 for a four year old car.
Pay up to £8000 for a five year old car with 45,000 miles on the clock.
The MR2 loses a little each year, but not enough to mention, and there are no sudden drops now it's out of manufacture.
