The current shape Meriva is revolutionary. Its 'Suicide' rear doors mean that loading the back of car is much easier. Great for helping the young and very old.
Build quality is as good as Volkswagen. It has an excellent ride, incisive handling and class leading refinement. The Meriva is rightly a big hit.
With the Meriva you're best bet is to go for the excellent 1.4 turbo petrol engine. It's usefully cheaper than the diesel but will give you greater refinement and up to 42 MPG.
Go for the 1.4 petrol Meriva in mid ranking SE spec.
Pay around £10,500 for a 2 year old 1.4 petrol Meriva with less than 10,00 miles on the clock.
If a petrol Meriva then buy nearly new. If diesel then wait 3 years.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Vauxhall Meriva you would aim to buy a 3 year old and sell it before it is 4 years old.
Diesel Vauxhall Meriva cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Vauxhall Meriva cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Vauxhall Meriva cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
