The Omega is Vauxhall's traditional take on the big executive car. An old design now the Omega is still competitive in terms of ride and handling (just ask the traffic police) but the interior is dated and the range of engines limited.
The lack of a premium badge and any kind of image has kept prices very low yet the car is very well equipped for the money. As the Omega has been around for a while the cost of parts and servicing is minimal and the cars are generally very tough.
The Omega has one diesel option, which is the old 2.2 litre Vauxhall unit. With this car the smooth V6 petrols are actually slightly more expensive. They tend to be very highly optioned and have similar mileage to the diesel variants.
The best value Omega is the 2.2 diesel in GLS trim with an manual box. A 2.2 petrol or a V6 petrol will cost around £400 more and will have a slightly higher mileage. For the extra money the V6 petrol is much nicer to drive and will be better specified.
Expect to pay as little as £1600 for a 2.5 V6 around 9 years old with around 90,000 miles on the clock. A fully specced 2003 V6 auto will cost you around £4000 . Top whack for a diesel would be £3000 for a 7 year old car.
There is no best time to buy on these cars. They have passed the point where depreciation is a factor.
