This is Vauxhall's highly underrated 'executive hatch' model. An anomaly in the market, it's based on the Vauxhall Vectra. It's radical market position make it very cheap in the used car market. It's actually a very good car.
The Signum is easily is capable and well made as the competition, premium or otherwise and is one of the best value secondhand cars on the market. The handling, build quality and engine performance are first class.
The bigger capacity Signum models are one of the great used car bargains. The diesels models are cheaper than their Vectra counterparts but the highly specced 'Elite' 3.0 diesel versions are genuine cut-price executive cars.
The best value diesel is the 1.9 CDI Design. A similar 2.2 petrol will cost over £500.00 less and will have 10/15,000 miles less showing on the clock. The high spec 2.0 Turbo and 3.2V6 petrols are also comparative bargains.
Expect to pay as little as £3000 for a six or seven year old petrol with about 65,000 miles showing. A two year old 3.0 diesel model with around 60,000 miles will cost around £12,000 - losing almost 50% of it's value in the first two years.
The best time to buy a Signum is at five years when the bulk of the very heavy depreciation has taken place.
