Vauxhall's mid range bread and butter saloon, hatch and huge estate is well built, thoughtfully planned, comfortable and a second-hand bargain with a massive range of specs and engines.
The Vectra is easily as capable and well made as the competition. The handling, build quality and engine performance are first class.
The petrol models are, on average, over £1000 cheaper, spec for spec than the diesels, are cheaper to service and insure and have lower mileage. In this instance these are the ones we recommend.
The best value diesel is the 1.9 CDI Design. A similar 2.2 petrol will cost over £500 less and will have 10-15,000 miles less showing on the clock. The high spec 2.0 Turbo and 3.2V6 petrols are also comparative bargains.
Expect to pay as little as £3000 for a six or seven year old petrol with about 65,000 miles showing. More recent diesel powered motors are in the £7,000-£8,000 bracket.
The best time to buy is at three years when the first MOT has been issued. After that depreciation is going to be steady on diesel models.
