The Pheaton is VW’s take on the big, luxury salon. It’s a competitor to the S Class Mercedes and Jaguar XK. Although VW own Audi, who make the A8, which is a direct rival, the cars share only powertrains.
It’s an oft forgotten car, the Pheaton, which is kind of what makes it so good. If you want luxury, space and refinement but want to remain anonymous the Pheaton is the way to do it. The lack of a luxury badge has kept sales and prices low in the UK.
The older petrol cars in the UK market can be a real bargain. But rarity makes newer petrols surprisingly expensive. The diesel engines make light work of the weight and the 3.0 is the pick of the bunch. Still cheap compared to the car’s rivals.
If you want an older car go petrol. They tend to be private cars with low mileage. Nearly new, diesel is the right choice.
