The Golf based (not another one!) is a direct hit from VW. Solid gold residuals seem to confirm this. Brilliant to drive, beautifully built and quick in all forms the Scirocco is a hard car to fault.
The Scirocco retains most of the Golf's practicality but it's far more glamorous. The handling is pretty much as good as front wheel drive gets and the driving position is amongst the best.
The Scirocco gets most of the good engines from the Golf including the 2.0 diesel in high and low power outputs and the mill from the Golf GTI. The best engine though, is the 1.4 TFSI.
The little turbo and supercharged engine in the car is a gem. It's light weight gives the car supernatural handling and the economy is great. It comes as standard with the 7 speed DSG gearbox as well.
The Scirocco is currently showing very firm prices. Pay £18,500 for a nearly new 1.4TFSI or £1500 more for a 2.0 TDI diesel version of the same car. Go for the petrol. It's better.
Don't buy nearly new as these cars hold value very well. Depreciation should be gentle till the fourth year. Buy then.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Volkswagen Scirocco you would aim to buy a 3 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
