The Touran is very good but rather bland. If you prize smoothness and brand above style and fun, then the Touran is a good choice. It will never give you a bad day.
The Touran is objectively very good. It's extremely refined, has a good range of engines and handles and rides in a similar way to the Golf on which it's based ? so it's smooth.
Petrol is your best option with the Touran. Diesel can cost up to £2000 more depending on spec and they are not worth that much. The auto option is very good, being the 6 speed box VW put in much bigger cars.
Go for a 1.6 or 2.0 petrol in plain (very plain) SE spec. As long as your kids don't mind winding up the rear windows it will have all you need.
Pay around £11,000 for a 3 year old 1.6 petrol auto in SE spec with less than 20,000 miles o the clock.
Buy at 3 years. After that you can sell at any time.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Volkswagen Touran you would aim to buy a 3 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
Petrol Volkswagen Touran cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Petrol Volkswagen Touran cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Volkswagen Touran cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
