The C30 is Volvos singular take 3 door hatchback. Instead of taking a needlessly sporting and 'youthful' view Volvo have made a rational and thoughtful machine that is a joy to use day to day.
The C30 gets the stand out interior of the V40 and S40 - their peerless seats and mechanical reliability but with an added dose of style. It's a car we rate very highly.
We'd go petrol on this car. The 1.6 and 2.0 diesel motors are very good Ford engines but they command a premium of up to £1500 over the comparative petrol cars. It's not worth it.
The 1.8 petrol engine suits the car well. Especially when combined with R-Design sport trim although if you are after a smooth ride go for SE spec.
Pay £9500 for a 3 year old 1.8 petrol with no more than the average mileage of 26,500.
Around 3.5 years after the first MOT would be a good time to buy. Depreciation should be fairly gentle after this point. R-design cars hold on to their value much better.
Used Car Expert recommends that you try to buy after a big drop in depreciation and before the next one, so with the current Volvo C30 you would aim to buy a 3 year old and you can keep it for some time before needing to worry about a big drop in value.
Petrol Volvo C30 cars lose most over the first year (from new to 1 year old), so that is the best ‘nearly new’ buy in terms of car for money.
Diesel Volvo C30 cars lose least between years 1 and 3, so this is the best buy if you want to keep the car for a while.
Petrol Volvo C30 cars lose least between years 2 and 4, so that is the best buy on older cars.
