Used Volvo V50 2004 – Buyer’s Guide

Why buy a Used Volvo V50?

The junior version of Volvo's ever so serious estate range. Smooth and capable though the Ford Focus, whose underpinnings the Volvo shares is a better choice for the keen driver. The V50 has an absolutely first class cabin and is very refined on the move.

The V50 has the same unruffled Swedish calm as it's bigger brothers and sisters. Though the load area is not hugely capacious it's well planned, the ride is excellent and the V50 is a genuinely top-class motorway car.

Which is the best used Volvo V50?

The most popular cars in the range are the 1.6 and 2.0 diesel models. These don't cost much more than the petrol cars but they have 30,000 to 40,000 more miles showing on average. The bigger petrols are the same price wise but have much better spec.

The pick of the bunch have to be the smooth 2.4 petrol models. They are cheaper to buy, cost less to service, have lower average mileage and generally have a high specification compared to the diesel cars.

Fault Checks for the Volvo V50

What should I aim to pay for an Volvo V50?

The cheapest diesel cars on the market are around £4500 and all have well over 100,000 miles showing. Prices will go up to £18,000 for a nearly new 1.6D in coveted R-Design spec. You can get an early high spec, 2.4 petrol £5000.00.

The best time to buy is at three years when the first MOT has been issued. After that depreciation is going to be steady on all models. A nearly new petrol will lose 20% more of its value than a diesel on the first two years.
