WE were alarmed to note that Alfa Romeo’s UK range has been reduced to a measly two cars.

They current range comprises of the tiny MiTo and Golf-sized Giulietta.

This means that there is a finite number of the wonderful 159, GT, Brera/Spider and 147 in the market place.

Sooner or later, low supply will cause a rise in prices and that means now is the time to buy.

Truth be told, we are not massive fans of the MiTo and the Giulietta is ‘hopefully’ priced.

If you want a proper Alfa then the previous generation cars are the ones to go for.

Also, diesel power is not really right for these cars – a proper Alfa has a relatively small, high-revving petrol engine – it’s essential for the true Alfa experience.

Luckily, these cars tend to be cheaper than the diesels. So here, from UsedCarExpert, are three of the best.

Alfa Romeo 159

The design and production of the 159 were overseen by one Karl-Heinz Kalbfell, poached by the Fiat group from BMW/Rolls-Royce and his influence on the 159 is clear. It's beautiful, very well built and the attention to detail that Alfa had long missed is clearly evident. A great family car which is a joy to drive with a petrol motor.

UsedCarExpert.co.uk Cars for sale: A 2008 car with the 1.8 petrol and manual gearbox combination and 65,000 miles on the clock is available for £5,595.

Alfa Romeo Brera

Sister car to the open top Spider, is a much misunderstood Grand Tourer from Alfa, which delivers a real sense of occasion every time you get in. A Ferrari for Mondeo money and no mistake. An oft overlooked car and one that is now available at very sensible money.

UsedCarExpert.co.uk Cars for sale: A lovely, red 2008 model Brera with a 2.2 petrol engine, a manual gearbox and only 20,000 miles on the clock can be had for £12,000. Or, about the price of a 1.3 diesel MiTo. You decide.

Alfa Romeo 147

The 147 represents a rare combination of flair and common sense. Flair in it’s decidedly Italian driving manners and common sense in it’s roomy, hatchback configuration. All the petrol engines are great so pick one of these.

UsedCarExpert.co.uk Cars for sale: A 2007 car with the hugely thrashable 1.6 engine and only 36,000 miles on the clock is up for sale at £5,999.
