THE world’s first production hydrogen fuel cell car, the Honda FCX Clarity, will make its UK public debut next month.
Clarity is not a concept or experimental prototype, but a fully-certified vehicle built on a factory line like any other model.
With a range of 270 miles, it is an electric car that generates its power on board using compressed hydrogen as an energy carrier and emits only water vapour from its tailpipe.
It will take centre stage among Honda’s environmental car line-up, which includes the Insight, CR-Z and Jazz Hybrid, at low carbon motor festival EcoVelocity at Battersea Power Station from September 8-11.
Visitors will get the chance to drive the Honda vehicles around a specially-constructed track, and the drives are offered on a ‘just turn up’ basis with no need to pre-book a slot.
Honda UK chief Dave Hodgetts said: “We’re delighted to be supporting EcoVelocity because it gives people the opportunity to experience our cars and see how well they compare to other hybrids on the market.”
