LUXURY city car the Aston Martin Cygnet will go into production at the company’s Gaydon plant next year.
The car was a star of the Geneva motor show when displayed as a concept model last spring, and Aston chief Dr Ulrich Bez has confirmed that production of the much-awaited car is imminent.
Prices and specification for the Cygnet, which is based on the Toyota iQ and seen as a bespoke premium commuter car, will be announced later this year.
It is the eighth major production car Aston Martin has introduced at its Warwickshire factory since 2004, underlining the company’s commitment to British manufacturing.
At just three metres long, the Cygnet is able to slot into gaps in traffic, exploit the smallest parking spaces and emit low emissions, while delivering exceptional levels of quality and comfort.
“Cygnet is small but luxurious, an Aston Martin tailor fit for the city,” says Marek Reichman, Aston Martin's design director. “With an almost unlimited palette of materials, colours and textures, each hand-finished Cygnet will be unique, a personalised space within the city.”
