PEUGEOT has lifted the wraps on its new flagship model for the 508 series – and it looks a crossover cracker.

Following the launch of both the 508 saloon and SW models comes the 508 RXH aimed at further raising the profile of the Peugeot brand.

It will go on sale next spring after a public debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show and is higher and wider than a 508 SW.

The RXH also boasts LED lights that give the impression of three vertical lion claws on each side of its floating front grille, while the interior gets distinctive colours and more luxurious materials.

Peugeot says that standard kit will be lavish, with the likes of Open & Go keyless system, electric front seats, head up display, 18-inch wheels, panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows and latest generation audio and sat-nav all included.

Under the bonnet of the diesel-electric 508 RXH is the same 2.0-litre HDi HYbrid4 drivetrain used in the 3008 HYbrid4.

It has a maximum power of 200bhp, four-wheel drive, offers a 100 per cent electric mode with zero emissions - ideal for driving in town and for reducing average fuel consumption 67.2 mpg, with emissions of 109 g/km of CO2.

Prices will be revealed closer to the launch date.
