Question

I want to trade in my Fiat Punto for something more fun. I am thinking about buying a hard top convertible. Perhaps one of the Peugeots, either the 206 or 307. What hard-top convertible would you recommend and why?

Answer

Maria, both the Peugeots are good. The 206 is sexier than the 307 and sexier still is the overlooked Mitsubishi Colt coupe cabriolet. It has better build quality, specification and style. Plus its rarity makes it more of a talking point.

The 307s have a lot in common with the Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet, so buy on price rather than badge. Both will be in the region of £9,000 - £10,000 if buying a three-year-old version.

Personally I would rather buy a Mini convertible for £1,000 - £2000 more (even though it doesn’t have the hard roof) because it will lose a lot less over the next two or three years that you own it.
