For the first time in my life I have enough money to buy a really good car. I something sensible but with a bit of glamour and have a budget of £17,000. I don’t mind if it is new or used, and so don’t know where to start. Ideally I want a bit of a head turner. Please help!

If you just want to look cool, go for a 2002 Mercedes 230K CLK or a 2002 Porsche Boxster 2.7i. They are both around £17,000 at dealers and should have no more than 50,000 miles on the clock. That gives you plenty of life in the car.
But if you actually want to be cool, consider a 2000 Maserati 3200 GT. It is expensive and flawed but will turn heads like nothing else. They are now just within your budget and are all low mileage (30-40,000 miles).
If it’s not cool you want but just a general air of wealth, go for a 2001 Lexus SC.
